Biography
Born in Rome, Andrea Causapruna developed a deep connection with music from an early age, inspired by the works of Chopin, Mozart, and Beethoven. He graduated with top marks in guitar from the Conservatorio di Santa Cecilia under the guidance of Giuliano Balestra, with whom he also explored the vihuela, as well as 19th-century repertoire and performance practice. He continued his studies through advanced training courses held by Oscar Ghiglia at the Accademia Chigiana in Siena and by Stefano Grondona.
His repertoire ranges from the Renaissance to contemporary music. He performs the Spanish repertoire of the Siglo de Oro on the original instrument, the vihuela, and 19th-century works on period instruments. A prizewinner in several national and international competitions, he has received numerous awards, including the Silver Plaque of the Presidency of the Italian Republic in 2006. He has performed as a soloist in Italy, Mexico, and Kenya, appearing at international festivals such as those of Udine and Mexico City.
In 2022, he released the single Isaia's Song, followed in 2023 by the album The Lover's Suitcase under the World Fonogram Records & Publishing label, which received positive international acclaim. In 2024, he produced an arrangement of Yann Tiersen's iconic piece Comptine d'un autre été. He is also the author of soundtracks for documentaries and stage music for theatre productions, and collaborates as a composer, arranger, and performer with directors and actors such as Antonio Mocciola, Mauro Toscanelli, Masaria Colucci, and Bruno Petrosino. As a teacher, he has given masterclasses at prestigious institutions such as the Escuela Nacional de Música and the Instituto Superior de Bellas Artes in Mexico City. He holds a degree in Music Education and teaches guitar in Italian state schools.
